I have been working with a lap counting system for the MABA Races the test that has been run has worked will. The first test was only a 20 ft. wide start Finish line next test will be a 50 ft. wide s-f line. Is there a need for this type of system for the water prop boats?
It is triggered by actual boat. The boat has a Transponder on it. The over head pickups are connected to a laptop and each boat is counted. We are still testing this but it is looking good so far.

Hi there Lester. I'm from New Zealand and our National body (NZMPBA) has been looking into a transponder lap counting system with not much luck to date. Possibly because we would like a pick length of minimum 20 meters. Racing offshore boats (7 or 8 at a time) and need that length from the shore over the racing course. What I have seen are some form of overhead pickup boom and this appears to be the problem. Supporting the pickups and actual length of it. You appear to be moving in the right direction in regards to length. How are you progressing with it. John Belworthy, Treasurer NZMPBA. email: jc.belworthy@xtra.co.nz
